On morcha day, 45,000 cops to be out in full force in Mumbai
Police are also keeping a close watch on social media to quell rumour-mongering during the bandh period
Around 45,000 policemen -- the force’s full strength in the city -- of uniformed policemen will be deployed across the city in view of the bandh call given by the Maratha Kranti Morcha on Wednesday.
Joint commissioner of police, law and order, Deven Bharti, said men and officers in all 93 police stations as well as reserve forces have been asked to remain present in the streets in full strength to meet any exigency at the earliest.
Sources said police are also keeping a close watch on social media to quell rumour-mongering during the bandh period.
“All necessary precautions have been taken to ensure order and peace during the bandh period,” he said. Sources said plain clothes special branch sleuths have been deployed in the vicinity of sensitive places and installations in advance to thwart any mischief by miscreants.
Though there is no anticipation of violence, maximum deployment is being made along the three highways—Eastern Express, Western Express and Eastern Freeway—in order to prevent bandh supporters from staging road blocks that could disrupt life in the city.
