2 killed, 3 injured in road mishaps in city

Two persons died in separate road accidents involving heavy vehicles in the western suburbs on Tuesday.

Two persons died in separate road accidents involving heavy vehicles in the western suburbs on Tuesday.

In the first incident, a youth died while two others were grievously injured when the bike they were riding on collided with a truck at Kharodi junction in Malad (West) at 5.15pm. Vishal Sawant was riding the bike while his colleagues, Mahendra and Maruti Shetty, were seated pillion when they tried to overtake the speeding truck.

“We have arrested the truck driver,” said Abdul Rauf Shaikh, senior inspector at Malwani police station.

In the second accident that took place at Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road near Majas bus depot at 1.05am, an 18-year-old tanker cleaner died after the driver of the tanker, who was speeding, collided with a cement mixer.

The Meghwadi police said that Shivmangal, 26, was driving rashly, while the cleaner Govind Harijan was seated on the roof of the tanker. Shivmangal was arrested for causing death due to negligence.
