One workshop has already been held at the university’s Kalina campus, with more sessions planned. “The girls in the first batch really benefited, and the programme was a success,” said Shefali Pandya, a senate member. “It is part of the process of women empowerment and confidence-building,” said Naresh Chandra, pro vice-chancellor of the university.

Other new schemes for the coming academic year include a Rs. 10 lakh provision for innovation clubs in colleges, Rs. 2 lakh for the university youth policy and Rs. 1 lakh for the two best students of the year (male and female).

New constructions will include an exam house, estimated to cost Rs. 2.75 crore, an international convention centre and hostels, as well as other beautification and renovation programmes.

College teachers’ strike

A five-member delegation of senate members will meet the governor on Sunday morning to ask him to intervene in the deadlock between protesting teachers and the state, which has disrupted university exam schedules.
