Veteran ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas is back in action with his new single Khwaabon Ki Kahaani.
The 64-year-old ghazal singer says that the first two lines express the zest of the ghazal — Tum soch rahe ho bas, badalon ki udano tak, Meri to nigahen hai, suraj ke thikano tak. “One should not keep his/her thought process limited. Let it fly and go as far as it can. Reach the clouds and break all the limits," says the Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera and Chithi Aayi hai hitmaker.
On what makes the single different from other singles, the singer says, “I have been a trendsetter. I am a person who has always worked unconventionally. This is the first time a ghazal singer is releasing a single track ghazal album.
With an influence of some western music the ghazal is based on Urdu poetry like my previous albums. "The ghazal is very soulful and that was my whole idea." The singer adds, “I don’t know how far I will succeed, but I am quite sure that everyone will welcome my work because people today don’t have the patience to listen to the whole album and prefer singles, so that they can hear different songs from different artists of their choice. So this single was born out of that thought, we have also done a video," says the singer.
Commenting on the fading popularity of ghazals, Udhas says, “Ghazals can be seen as a dying art in today’s generation. Therefore, releasing a single track and reaching people through YouTube is my attempt to reach out to larger audiences and keep the flag of ghazal flying."
