Holding banners and posters, activists of the RJD-LJP combine marched in procession to the collectorates in different parts and submitted petitions to District Magistrates for declaring the entire state as ‘drought-hit´.

They also held demonstrations before the collectorates to press for their 17-point charter of demands in support of the farmers.

State RJD President Abdul Bari Siddiqui and his LJP counterpart Pashupati Kumar Paras charged the state government with ‘being insensitive´ to the cause of farmers as it failed to take preventive steps to cope with the situation despite deficient rainfall.

“We had called for taking special measures to tackle the situation a fortnight back, but the state government merely sat over the issue on the plea that the meteorological department predicted possibilities of incessant rains in future”, Siddiqui said.

“The state’s behaviour in this regard proves to be like leaving the people to the mercy of God,” the RJD leader alleged.
