Cyclone Mandous wreaks havoc as it crosses Tamil Nadu coast: In pics

Cyclone Mandous, which made landfall off the coast of Mamallapuram on Friday with a wind speed of 75 km an hour, caused heavy rain across parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the states also experienced strong winds as the cyclonic storm passed through on Saturday after making landfall. According to the state government's report, Naidupeta in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati district received the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours, witnessing a record (281.5mm). The cyclone-triggered downpour resulted in severe waterlogging in low-lying areas. The National Disaster Response Force team was kept on standby in Chennai early Saturday morning as the cyclone maintained its 'Severe Cyclonic Storm' status.
