Body of man, who threw his baby in Khadakwasla dam, found

Both the bodies were taken to the Sassoon General Hospital for post mortem where Gauri Danane identified the body as that of her husband, Sunil Vijay Danane.

Fire brigade officials on Tuesday afternoon fished out two bodies from the Khadakwasla dam, one of which was identified as the man who allegedly threw his eight-month-old daughter in the dam before jumping in himself.

Both the bodies were taken to the Sassoon General Hospital for post mortem where Gauri Danane identified the body as that of her husband, Sunil Vijay Danane. The body of the eight-month-old child identified as Jahnavi Danane, however, was not found.The other body remained unidentified.

The incident happened in the jurisdiction of Uttamnagar police station. The officer in charge, Mohan Mali, said that the woman, Gauri Danane had gone to Sassoon hospital to identify the body but has not returned to the police station to record her statement or file a complaint.The incident came to light when an eye witnesses alerted the fire brigade that a man and his daughter had been washed away on Monday evening. Eyewitnesses claimed that the man had taken the daughter from his wife’s arms and threw her in the dam moments before jumping in himself, according to Prakash Gore, station officer of the fire brigade.

One of the men, who claims to know the family of three who lived in the nearby village in Khadakwasla, told Gore that the man had consumed alcohol in the afternoon and was drunk thereafter.

The spot, from where the incident was reported, is a famous tourist attraction as the doors of the dam are visible. The water is currently gushing out water at a speed of 5000 cusecs.
