Marathi actress Prarthana Behere injured in accident on Pune-Mumbai Expressway
They were on their way to Kolhapur when the incident happened at Lonavla. The driver was speeding when he approached a stationary tempo. In an attempt to bypass it, he took a sharp turn and rammed the vehicle into a rock, according to the actor.
Marathi actress Prarthana Behere was injured in an accident on Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Monday morning. Behere, 25, was travelling with her colleague Aniket Vishwasrao, 37, and her hairstylist.
They were on their way to Kolhapur when the incident happened at Lonavla. The driver was speeding when he approached a stationary tempo. In an attempt to bypass it, he took a sharp turn and rammed the vehicle into a rock, according to the actor.
The driver, the hairstylist and Vishwasrao escaped without an injury. They were travelling in a black Fortuner registered in the name of the actress.
"We were travelling at a very high speed and the driver lost control of the vehicle when he tried to avoid a stranded tempo. Our car rammed into a rock. I was asleep and escaped unhurt, however, Prarthana fractured her right hand. It could have been fatal if it was not for that stone, we would have gone into a ditch nearby. It all happened in a fraction of a second," said Aniket Vishwasrao. While Vishwasrao went to Kolhapur to promote the film, Behere underwent primary treatment at a hospital in Lonavla and returned to Mumbai.
Police from the Lonavla police station under the Pune rural police jurisdiction, rushed to the spot and recorded a panchnama. The incident was recorded at the said police station.
Among the rising number of accidents on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, in December 2012, two other Marathi actors, Anand Abhyankar and Akshay Pendse, were killed. The incident gathered condolences from various groups, but failed to curb the number of accidents along the expressway. Pendse’s brother, Tanmay Pendse, has been working for betterment of the expressway ever since.
