Nine cases of fraud and cheating were registered last week against Neeraj, who had jumped bail a few months ago following which the police had initiated proceedings to declare him a PO or fugitive. In all, he faces more than two dozen complaints on charges of defrauding people by promising money or plots to people in Punjab and Haryana.

It was around a years and a half ago that the Fazilka police had initiated action on the complainants, and later a special investigation team (SIT) was set up. Neeraj joined investigation and was lodged in the Fazilka sub-jail first, and was shifted to the central jail in Ferozepur after a clash.

“We are investigating all the complaints against Neeraj and his accomplices thoroughly,” said Ketan Baliram Patil, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Fazilka.
