The police on Monday booked a 26-year-old man for attempting rape on a minor.

The accused, who has been identified as Balraj alias Laddi, a resident of Jassian village, attempted rape on his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter on the roof of his house on Sunday.
Division Number 4 police station SHO Dharampal said, “A case has been registered following the statement of victim’s mother. In her complaint, the woman stated that the accused was their neighbour. She had gone to attend a bhog ceremony on Sunday, while her 13-year-old daughter, a student of Class 8, was alone at home. Her husband is abroad on work permit, she stated.”
She alleged that in her absence, the accused intruded in her house and took her daughter on the roof and attempted rape on her. When she came back, she did not find her daughter at home. Then she reached victim’s house searching for her, where the girl raised an alarm, following which the accused fled.
The SHO said, “On being informed, the police have registered a case under Sections 376/511 (attempt to rape) of the Indian Penal code (IPC) and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act 2012 against the accused. The police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.”
