Mohali: Panic gripped Shivalik Enclave in Kharar after two gangs opened fire at each other and later also shot at the police team that reached there to apprehend them here on Monday.

The incident took place outside Gate No. 2 of the residential locality Shivalik Enclave on the Kharar-Banur road around 5:45pm. Dheera and Billa of Khunimajra along with two dozen aides had come to meet members of Baba gang, who too were around 25 in number. After their talks failed, the two sides attacked each other with sharp-edged weapons and also fired shots, said police. Meanwhile, police too reached there on a tip-off.

On seeing the cops, the gangsters shot eight to nine bullets at the raiding party, said police. Although one of the miscreants, Ajay, was arrested, others managed to flee.

Police said Dheera, Billa and Baba have multiple cases of murder and dacoity registered against them in Kharar and other parts of Punjab. The Kharar police seized a white Hyundai i20 car and two motorcycles from the spot. The car is registered in Hisar, Haryana, in the name of one Sahil.

Meanwhile, four police teams have been formed to raid the possible hideouts of the assailants. Police were yet to register a case till the filing of this report.
