He was admitted to Rajindra Hospital on Wednesday after he complained of chest pain and fever. “After several rounds of medical investigation, it was confirmed that he was affected with the virus,” civil surgeon Rajiv Bhalla said, adding that a team of doctors is monitoring his health.

Dr Savita Kapila said his condition is stable but it would take at least two to three days for him to recover. “We will be able to tell his exact health status on Saturday,” she added.

Hospital authorities did not shift Rajoana to the dengue ward owing to security reasons.

Sources said he had been kept in the prison ward with a round-the-clock security.

Rajoana, lodged in the Patiala central jail, had complained of uneasiness and was referred to the hospital.
