CM orders SIT probe into Koderma Cong chief’s murder
Chief minister Raghubar Das on Wednesday directed to set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the murder of Koderma Congress president Shankar Yadav in a ‘well-conspired’ bomb blast on Tuesday.
Yadav’s Scorpio was blown up by a bomb blast on Salhara Road under Chandwara police station, around 165 Km north of state capital Ranchi on Tuesday.
“The CM has expressed grief over the incident. The CM has ordered an SIT to probe into the murder. Police inspector KP Yadav, offcer-in-charge of Chanwara police station Soni Pratap, Barhi SDP Manish Kumar, officer-in-charge of Barhi police station Jitendra Kumar Singh and officer-in-charge of Chauparan police station will be members of the SIT,” a communique from the CM office said.
As per the initial findings, the perpetrators had planted a remote-operated bomb in an autorickshaw and blew it when Yadav’s Scorpio stood parallel to the auto on the road, police said.
“Prima facie it looks like they planted the bomb in an autorickshaw. Damages to the deceased’s vehicle were also caused by splinters,” said Koderma superintendent of police Shivani Tewary.
The police also found remains of the autorickshaw at the site of the incident.
Fifty five year-old Shankar Yadav and his bodyguard Krishna Yadav, 40, died on the spot, while critically-injured driver Dharmesh Yadav was rushed to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). Dharmesh, however, succumbed to injuries on Wednesday, officials from the hospital said.
Police sources from Koderma said that a dispute over stone mines could be the motive behind the murder.
Yadav on Tuesday had visited his stone mine crusher at Jhumri Tilaiya, where the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, CM Das has also asked the crime investigation department (CID) and Koderma police to jointly work and help the SIT in the investigation.
Yadav’s body was cremated on Wednesday at around 4pm in Koderma. Senior political leaders, including state Congress president Ajoy Kumar, former minister Annapurna Devi and former chief minister Babulal Marandi attended the cremation.
As a precautionary measure, the police on Wednesday also decided to provide security cover to the family of the deceased Congress leader.
A temporary police picket was also set up at the village where Yadav was murdered.
CM Das has asked the concerned police officials to arrest the culprits at the earliest, sources said. He also had a telephonic conversation with Koderma SP on Wednesday morning and took details of the situation in Koderma, they added.
