After a year with no releases, actor Vikram is thrilled with the response to his latest outing Sketch, which happens to be his maiden release of the year. Speaking at the film’s success meet in Chennai on Tuesday, Vikram advised the film’s director Vijay Chander to relish the success and enjoy this phase. “When I saw the response for the film in theatres, I told Vijay to enjoy this phase; to relish this success. I know how I felt after the release of Sethu, and I’m really happy for him.”
Sketch is Vijay Chander’s second directorial outing after Simbu’s Vaalu. Despite releasing alongside Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Kootam and Prabhudheva’s Gulebaghavali for Pongal, Sketch managed to click at the box-office all over. “Vijay and I went from one theatre to another to watch the film with audiences. The response has been great,” said Vikram. Recalling how the project materialized, the Saamy actor said: “I have been on the lookout to do something commercial but different at the same time for long. I heard so many stories but nothing caught my attention. It was cinematographer Sukumar, who called and asked me to listen to the story of Sketch. I was busy shooting for another project, but he was hell-bent on me listening to the story. When I heard the story, I was quite taken aback. I didn’t quite think Vijay could pull it off. But I loved how he put together the project.”
Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, while heaping praise on the entire team and Vikram’s performance in particular, said talks have been initiated for Hindi remake of the film. He also confirmed the Telugu dubbed version of Sketch will release on January 26.
