NOTA trailer: Vijay Devarakonda and Sanchana Natarajan plays important roles in the film.

Vijay Devarakonda’s debut film NOTA’s trailer was released on Thursday by Suriya. After impressing the audience with his Telugu films, Vijay is all set to thrill the audience with a Tamil film. The trailer features Vijay as a politician who is not working for the development of the state but is a selfish man whose attention lies elsewhere.

NOTA—None of the above—is an appropriate title for the film because none of the political players in the film seem sincere about their work. It is a power play to rule a state, however they wish to. There is a hint of what happened in Chennai during the floods, there is a scene about a bus on fire during a strike and then we hear Vijay say, “F*** these politicians.” That’s when you realise that this is no Bharat Ane Nenu or a Mudhalvan, but is a version of political drama that ‘rowdy’ Devarakonda can ace.

Dialogues such as, “Is this the seat for the position of Chief Minister or Musical chair?”, “Isn’t it fashionable these days to make midnight announcements?”, “The future of the state in the hands of a godman?” clearly shows the inspiration drawn from real life. From scams that are about thousands of crores to life-altering decisions taken lightly, this is a film that criticises the current political climate. The fact that Devarakonda plays a fit-for-nothing politician, also impresses upon the state of the country today.

Suriya shared the trailer of the Tamil version of the bilingual film and wrote, “Here’s the #NOTA Tamil Trailer! Hey #Rowdy @TheDeverakonda Hearty welcome to the Tamil Film Industry! Be loved and blessed as always..!! #NOTATrailer.”

The film is directed by Anand Shankar and also stars Sathyaraj and Nasser in pivotal roles. Mehreen Pirzada plays a journalist in the film and the one character to keep an eye out for is that of the opposing politician played by Sanchana Natarajan.
