Rashmi Shukla tipped to head state police

Rashmi Shukla, an officer of the Indian Police Service, is being considered as the next state police chief in Maharashtra, with the current director general set to retire. Shukla's previous role as state intelligence commissioner was controversial due to allegations of phone tapping. Other contenders for the position include Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar. The home department is expected to send a list of candidates to the Union Public Service Commission for consideration.
