UP fast-tracks new forensic science lab in Lucknow

“A master plan, to be finalised within 90 days, will include comprehensive architectural designs, topography, site surveys, and sub-soil analysis. Renowned institutions like IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, IIT BHU, and NIT Prayagraj will lend their expertise to ensure top standards,” said a senior government official.

Umesh Pal murder: Shots also fired from carbine of a police guard, says FSL report

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Lucknow has determined that shots were fired from a police guard's carbine during the attack on lawyer Umesh Pal by gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed's henchmen. However, it is still unclear who fired the shots. CCTV footage shows one assailant picking up the carbine after it was dropped by the police guard. Two colt pistols and two country-made handguns were also used in the attack, according to an earlier FSL report.

During the hearing on Thursday, Ayushman Roy, senior scientific officer, DNA Wing, forensic science laboratory (FSL), Madhuban, was called as a witness by the CBI, which investigated the case. Roy had taken the sample of the hair of the deceased child and blood samples of Ashok, the conductor of the school bus in the case. His DNA profiling was done and the report was submitted.

The Mumbai crime branch has filed a 1,790-page chargesheet against two individuals accused of killing MBBS student Swadichcha Sane in November 2021, citing more than 100 witnesses. The accused allegedly confessed to dumping Sane's body in the sea, but it has not yet been found. The case is based on circumstantial evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements, and the accused allegedly attempted to create evidence in their defense.

Bihar violence: 16-yr-old killed in Nalanda; 6 injured in Rohtas bomb blast

Fresh violence erupted in Bihar's Nalanda district and Sasaram town of Rohtas, leaving a 16-year-old dead and several injured. The unrest followed communal clashes during Ram Navami processions, with the Nalanda administration imposing a curfew and internet services suspended in both districts. At least 80 people have been arrested, and nine companies of paramilitary forces are trying to control the situation. In Rohtas, a bomb explosion occurred in a hut near a mosque, injuring six people.
