ganesh chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi is an important Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of elephant-headed Hindu God Ganesha and falls in the month of Bhadrapada. It falls either in August or September as per the Gregorian calendar. Celebrated with much fanfare and enthusiasm, the festival is celebrated over a span of 10 days and is popularly called Ganeshotsav. The festival is more popular in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, and Karnataka compared to others. The 'sthapana' of Lord Ganesha is done at the beginning of the festival and the idols are kept for 1.5, 3, 5, 7 or 10 days during the festival. On the concluding day of the festival, which is also called Anant Chaturdashi, huge processions are carried out for Ganesh Visarjan where people bid adieu to Ganpati Bappa urging him to come back early next year.
