Guest Column | Not material prosperity, invest in spiritual science

To exist in the world, we need knowledge of material science. However, to live well in the world and beyond, we need material and spiritual knowledge. We have not come here just to exist but to thrive in life.

As we grow older, we realise investment in material assets, including property, that starts with a thrill only becomes a burden or diminishing return. Investment in spiritual science, however, gives bountiful returns and we become an asset for society. (Shutterstock)

Three lessons from an unforgettable teacher

Guru was the moniker by which Doon School boys knew Gurdial Singh. It was a very apt nickname. It’s also how he’ll be remembered after his death last month.

In the 1960s, Doon valued its sportsmen far more than scholars. This meant that a child who had never swung a cricket bat nor kicked a football was at a significant disadvantage.(Getty Images/iStockphoto)

Sunrays: Being begins here and now

Ever wondered why the suffix ‘being’ is added to the word human? We never say bird being or animal being. Why? Is it a reminder that humans need to dwell on ‘being’? Most of us concentrate on doing, having, becoming … but do we think about ‘being’? (Getty Images/iStockphoto)

Sunrays: Remembering Sathya Sai on Aradhana Day

As Aradhana Day approaches, devotees remember Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who taught to live with awareness of God, self-improvement, and righteousness.
