‘Dead persons given pension’: HC issues contempt notices to director general, principal secretary of social justice department

The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued contempt notices to director general (DG) and principal secretary, department of social justice and empowerment, Haryana, for failure to take action against those involved in alleged disbursal of pension to dead persons in Haryana, nearly a decade ago.

The court said that even the report says “a huge amount of money still remains to be recovered” and besides action against the district social and welfare officers it has also recommended criminal action against the persons who had verified and sanctioned disbursement of pension to those who were otherwise ineligible. No pension for govt staffers if service less than 10 years: Himachal minister

Replying to another question of Hans Raj (BJP), the industries minister said that the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission (HPSSC) was scrapped on February 21, 2023 in the wake of allegations of paper leak and it has been replaced by the Himachal Pradesh State Chayan Aayog on September 30, 2023 to ensure transparency in selection process

He said that a cabinet sub-committee has been set up to take decisions for considering declaration of the pending test results and the decisions would be taken after the recommendations of the sub-committee are received (HT File)
