I enjoy the attention that I get: Pratyusha Banerjee

Says TV actor Pratyusha Banerjee, about the media’s focus on her personal life; refuses to admit that she is in a relationship, but reveals that she is “in a happy space”.

Television actor Pratyusha Banerjee has had a successful run on the small screen for the past five years. She rose to fame with the iconic role of Anandi in a popular show, and later, was a contestant on Bigg Boss and a celebrity dance reality show.

However, it is Pratyusha’s personal life that has constantly kept her in the news — from reports about her two-year relationship with ex-boyfriend Makrand Malhotra, her police complaint accusing him of abuse and death threats, to her fight and patch up with good friend, TV actor Sara Khan.

The latest news is that Pratyusha is dating again. While it is well known that she is in a relationship with actor-producer Rahul Raj Singh, the actor doesn’t wish to admit it yet.

There have been rumours of your impending wedding with Rahul…
They are not true. There is a lot of time for that. Nothing is impending (laughs).

But are you dating Rahul?
Well… I would say we are special friends.

Why don’t you admit to the relationship?
It doesn’t matter whether I comment or not. So, I have decided not to do so. People can say what they want. They (people) jump to conclusions. Some of them even think that I have secretly tied the knot, which is not true at all. I am in a happy space.

Why do you think your personal life keeps making news?
I think people love me so much; they are very interested in what’s happening in my life. I enjoy the attention.

You are playing the role of a witch in your new show. Do you feel such characters propagate superstition?
I don’t know if they do, but people believe in such things. This is the first character that is totally unlike me. I could connect with my earlier roles. I took up this character because it was a negative one, and I have always played positive roles. So, this was challenging for me. I have to put in a lot of effort to look bad.
