The Guadalarajara cartel happens to be the biggest chain in Mexico. Some believe that the drug trade widely expanded due to this cartel. The series is produced by Gaumont Television for Netflix and Eric Newman is the showrunner.

The show also stars Aaron Staton, Alejandro Edda, Alfonso Dosal, Alyssa Diaz, Clark Freeman, Ernesto Alterio, Fermin Martinez, Fernanda Urrejola, Gerardo Taracena, Guillermo Villegas, Gorka Lasaosa, Yul Vazquez, Tessa La, Teresa Ruiz, Tenoch Huerta, Matt Letscher, Manuel Masalva, Lenny Jacobson, Jose Maria Yazpik, Joaquin Cosio, Jackie Earle Haley and Horacio Garcia Rojas .

The last three seasons of Narcos were based on cartels in Columbia. The first season about Pablo Escobar brought worldwide fame to the series. The upcoming series is, however, about the first drug cartel in Mexico.
