Kolkata fire claims 23 lives, toll may go up

The death toll soared to 23 on Wednesday in a fire, which broke out in the Stephen Court building in the heart of Kolkata's bustling Park Street on Tuesday. While four bodies were found on Tuesday night, 14 other charred bodies were discovered early on Wednesday from the sixth floor of the high-rise building. Meanwhile, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Tuesday said that she has sought the assistance of the Disaster Management Team from the central government for the rescue of the people trapped in the fire.
