Polling for the single-phase elections for state assembly in Meghalaya began on Monday amidst tight security. More than 1.2 million voters are expected to exercise their franchise during the elections. Altogether 331 candidates, including six former state chiefs, prominent among them being P A Sangma, former speaker of Lok Sabha are in fray for the elections to the eighth Meghalaya Assembly.
