In a major setback to investigative agencies, the Supreme Court on Wednesday, declared forced narco-analysis, brain-mapping and polygraph tests on suspects as illegal and unconstitutional. The Court said that using these tests without the consent of the person being investigated is illegal as it is an unwarranted intrusion on the individual's rights. It can be noted that investigative agencies might consider this as a major setback as they have been defending such tests as necessary to deal with organised crime and terrorism, and to crack complicated cases.
