Red Fort, popularly known as Lal Qila, constructed by Mughal emperor Shahjahan, was accorded world heritage status by UNESCO, on November 29. The Director-General of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural organisation (UNESCO), who was also the chief guest for the event, handed over the certificate to India's cultural secretary. He applauded India's initiatives for conserving rare heritage monuments too.
