External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has hit back at U.S. Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, for criticising the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Garcetti had said one can’t give up on principles “no matter how close you are as friends”. In response, Jaishankar said, “I have principles too, and one of them is obligation to people who were let down at the time of Partition,” Jaishankar said at the India Today Conclave. The Foreign Minister also highlighted how U.S. & Europe too implemented religion-based citizenship laws in the past.
