Mahatma Gandhi's favourite 'Abide With Me' hymn has been dropped from the Beating Retreat ceremony as it was missing from the brochure released by the Indian Army on Saturday. The defence ministry has not commented on why the decades-old staple tune at Beating Retreat had been omitted. Surprised at the decision, former DG of military operations Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia (retd) said the tradition should continue as soldiers relate to Abide With Me and it has been a part of our military culture.
