India launches housing project in Sri Lanka for displaced Tamils
India has launched the second phase of a housing project worth 270 million dollars in Sri Lanka for the rehabilitation and resettlement of displaced Tamils. The Sri Lankan minister for Economic Development, Basil Rajapaksa and High Commissioner of India, Ashok K Kantha jointly launched the project. Kantha said that there is a comprehensive relationship between the two nations, which has grown over the years. Kantha said that the development projects were in collaboration with several social groups and based on the requirements of people in Sri Lanka. After the initial hiccups, the pilot project of building 1000 houses was completed in July this year.
