Police are responding to a reported active shooter situation at Deerbrook Mall in Humble, Texas, near Houston.
Authorities are responding to a reported active shooter incident at Deerbrook Mall in Humble, Texas, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office and Harris County Constable Precinct 4, as per KHOU.
The sheriff's office said its deputies are helping the Humble Police Department as officers secure the area. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Humble police is leading the investigation.
Police urge public to stay away from the area
The Harris County Sheriff's Office posted on X, “@HCSOTexas deputies are assisting the Humble Police Department with a reported active shooter incident at Deerbrook Mall. Please avoid the area and follow the directions of law enforcement personnel. Our deputies are working alongside our law enforcement partners to help secure the scene and protect the public.”

One victim shot, one person detained
As the situation at Deerbrook Mall continued to unfold, more details emerged about the scene. Mark Herman, of the Harris County Constable Precinct 4, shared an update on the situation, saying, “At this time, one victim has been reported shot, and one person has been detained. Law enforcement officers remain on scene as the investigation continues. Please avoid the area to allow first responders to safely conduct their investigation and emergency operations.”
Herman also posted, “PRECINCT 4 LIVE: HEAVY POLICE PRESENCE AT DEERBROOK MALL. Constable Deputies are assisting the Humble Police Department following reports of an active shooter at Deerbrook Mall, located in the 20100 block of U.S. Highway 59.”
Authorities have not yet released information about possible injuries or whether a suspect has been taken into custody. Officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
