Double Spring Fire near Gardnerville: Latest update on blaze in Nevada; check map, evacuation as scary videos emerge

A massive vegetation fire dubbed the Double Spring Fire was reported near Gardnerville in Douglas County, Nevada on Saturday, August 8.

The fire broke out in the area of Highway-395 & Spring Valley Drive, in the Double Spring area of Douglas County, Nevada. It is currently at 50 acres, as per WatchDuty, which tracks fire outbreaks.

The Nevada Department of Transportation announced a road closure due to the fire as well. “U.S. 395 CLOSED south of Gardnerville near Leviathan Mine Road due to wildfire. AVOID THE AREA,” they wrote on X.

A map of the impacted area was also available on WatchDuty.

Evacuation warnings have been sounded for Double Spring and Leviathan Mine area as per WatchDuty. It also reported that ‘Reverse 911 notifications have been sent to the Pinenut Estates, Double Springs, and Leviathan Mine areas.’

A cause for the fire is not immediately known and there are no reports of injuries yet. Meanwhile, scary visuals of the Double Spring Fire near Gardnerville was shared online.

Gardnerville Double Spring Fire: Scary visuals emerge

A local reporter shared videos of the fire from a distance and thick smoke could be seen. “Multi wildland fire south of Gardnerville. Hwy 395 closed. Double Springs fire,” they noted.

Another person shared a photo of the blaze.

“Better view of where the fire is,” they wrote, noting that smoke could be seen from Gardnerville.

Yet another shared a set of photos noting “The Double Spring Fire tonight, between Gardnerville, Nevada and Holbrook Junction.”

Some photos were shared on X as well. “Major fire starting near Double Springs between Gardnerville, NV & Holbrook Junction,” one wrote.

Other photos were from fixed cameras and showed smoke.

“#DoubleSpringFire the fire is now 50 acres per wildcad,” the person noted.

One person on Facebook shared their experience along with some photos and videos. “We got the phone alert about the Double Springs fire down by Topaz Estates and went out to see a huge plume of smoke. Then we noticed flames in the Pinenuts closer to the Fish Springs. Flashes of lightning to the East. The Pinenuts are a hot tonight. I hope the firefighters stay safe and no homes are burned,” they wrote.

Double Spring Fire: Fear among locals amid blaze

Several people reacted to the news of the Double Spring Fire. “That is HORRIBLE! Such beautiful country,” one wrote. Another added “Hopefully the folks living near Leviathan Mine Road and in the Double Springs area will be safe tonight.”

“Saw the lightning hit over there like 20 mins ago or so,” one noted, while another added “Brother in law saw multiple lightning followed by the fires from the hillside down valley near Woodfords.” Yet another said “This one was caused by a lightening strike.”

However, there's no official confirmation if a lightning strike caused the Double Spring Fire.
