As per a KVOA report, the remains were found near Silverlake Road and Interstate 10 on August 13 at 7am. This is about 11 miles away from Nancy Guthrie's home.
The Tucson Police Department told the publication that the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner has taken custody of the remains. Details remain limited at this time, as per the report.
As per KOLD News, the remains had been there for some time and were mostly bones. The investigation is on to determine the identity and cause of death.
Discovery sparks fears about Nancy Guthrie
The discover sparked fears of whether it was Nancy Guthrie. “My stomach is nervous its sad and horrible no matter who it is,” one wrote.

However, many opined that it was not likely Nancy, but a border jumper or a homeless person. “Homeless people are known to frequent the area, so that's what came to mind for most of us here,” Mary Coleman of KOLD News said. Another added “Sadly, we know how this goes. Would love closure for the Guthrie’s but also know this could be someone else’s loved one that is homeless or a druggie.”

No official confirmation has come whether the remains are linked to the Nancy Guthrie case as the medical examiner is working on determining the identity. However, Matt Finn of Fox News reported that federal sources told him it was not Nancy Guthrie.
