The Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday recorded the statement of Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh in connection with his complaint of tampering with evidences recovered from the computer of a key accused in Madhya Pradesh’s most high-profile scam, an official said.
Singh had accused that the STF that is probing the examination and recruitment scandal known as the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, of tempering with the excel-sheets recovered from Nitin Mahindra’s computer.
Mahindra is one of the key accused in the scam.
A STF team led by assistant inspector general of police Ashish Khare visited Singh’s Shyamla Hills residence and interrogated him more than two hours, sources said.
The STF officials questioned Singh about the excel-sheets and others materials related to the scam, which Singh claims to have, they added.
Talking to media persons, Khare said that Singh had lodged a complaint with the High Court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), which had instructed to the STF to conduct a probe into Singh’s complaint.
“We are conducting a probe into the former chief minister’s complaint. We have taken his statement and would corroborate the evidences with his statement,” he said.
Khare, however, refused to disclose what Singh had said in his statement.
Sources said that Singh had showed all the evidences to the STF officials, including the data of a mirror image of the hard disk of Mahindra’s computer, which was retrieved by Prashant Pandey, who has been identified as a whistleblower in the scam.
On February 16, Singh had appeared before the SIT and submitted an affidavit along with some documents, claiming that the ‘original’ excel-sheets retrieved from Mahindra’s hard disc had been tampered with.
