Heavy rains lash Panipat; waterlogging, traffic woes for residents

Commuters had to spend several hours on roads to reach their destinations as the waterlogging caused traffic jams.

As per reports, most of the affected areas were Kacha Camp, Kishanpura, Tehsil Camp, Sector 11-12, Old industrial area, Sanoli Road and Geeta colony. Not only Panipat city but also the nearby towns received heavy rainfall on Thursday as Israna block received the highest 90mm of rainfall, Samalkha 74mm, Matlauda 72mm and Panipat city 52mm.

Amit Rathi, a resident of Panipat, said the first rain has exposed the poor management and preparations by the Panipat MC and the district administration.

Soon after getting the reports of waterlogging and inconvenience to the people, Panipat deputy commissioner Virender Kumar Dahiya visited affected areas and issued instructions to officials to ensure that people do not face any problem in future.
