The police on Wednesday registered a murder case after a 37-year-old man found injured in an open plot in Yamunanagar last week died at PGIMER in Chandigarh.

The 37-year-old Vijay Kumar was an accused in several theft cases and was an alcoholic. His wife was living separately with their son at her maternal house, the family said.

His elder brother Ajay Kumar, an auto driver, told the police last week on March 16 that he was informed by someone that Vijay was laying injured in a plot in Ramnagar Colony.

“He was taken to a sub-divisional civil hospital and then to a district civil hospital for treatment. From there, he was referred to Chandigarh on Saturday. However, he succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday. We got to know from our fellow villagers that one person identified as Ajay alias Manga was seen near my brother, and we suspect he has murdered him,” Ajay’s complaint to the police read.

A murder case was registered on Ajay’s complaint at Jagadhri City police station.

SHO Janak Raj said, “At least eight blunt wounds, including six on the head, were found on the body. It is suspected that he was killed after being attacked several times on the head with a brick. An autopsy is being performed in Chandigarh, and the matter is under investigation.”
