The victim was allegedly beaten inside the moving vehicle and then in a park at Gulabi Bagh, from where he was rescued two hours later by a police team. He suffered multiple injuries, including a head injury, police said.

The abduction and assault followed an accusation by a woman, a former colleague of the victim, who told one of the arrested men, Shubham, 19, that the victim had been speaking against her. Shubham then discussed and hatched a plan with associate Swayam Shah, 21, who roped in three others – Tanmay, 20, Dhruv, 23, and Rishi, 23 – and together they plotted to settle the score, officers added.

Deputy commissioner of police (north) Niharika Bhatt said the Roop Nagar police station received a call on Sunday night regarding the kidnapping of a man from near a kiosk in Kamla Market. A police team reached the spot and got to know that five men had dragged the 18-year-old inside a grey Maruti Ertiga car after assaulting him.

The victim’s location was then traced to the Gulabi Bagh area. Team members reached the spot and, after a brief search, heard a person screaming in a local park. They entered and found the abducted man being assaulted by five men, police said.

“The victim was rescued and all five were arrested. The car used in the crime was seized. The victim told police that he was with his friend in Kamla Market when the five men arrived, assaulted him and forcibly dragged him inside their car, causing injuries,” said DCP Bhatt, adding that the victim and the woman had earlier worked together at a company in Moti Bagh.

Police said a case under sections 140 (kidnapping), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 126 (wrongful restraint) and 3 (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Roop Nagar police station.
