A 26-year-old deliveryman was critically injured after the official vehicle of an officer on special duty (OSD) to Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar hit him near the Sector 3/4 roundabout late on Tuesday night.
The car is allotted to Dhruv Majumdar, an information technology (IT) consultant to Khattar.
Police have registered a case against an unidentified person and are probing who was driving the car.
Victim Satnam Singh works with Zomato and stays in Nayagaon. His family is from Moga.
Satnam was returning from work in Sector 9 when the speeding Hyundai Sonata coming from the Capitol Complex side hit him around 11:20pm, said investigating officer (IO) sub-inspector Gurmeet Singh.
“The victim has not gained consciousness and we have registered a case on the statement of his brother, Mohinder Singh,” said the IO.
UT senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nilambari Jagdale said: “Who was driving the car is being looked into. The probe is still in progress. However, it has been verified that the vehicle belongs to Dhruv Majumdar.”
Satnam is presently admitted at the trauma centre of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). Sources said he has developed blood clot in his brain. He has also sustained a fracture in his right leg.
Police have registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on public way) and 337 (causing hurt by endangering life of others) of the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, replying to HT through an SMS, Majumdar wrote: “Yes, there was an accident which had taken place last night. No one fled from the spot. The injured person was helped onto a nearby car and taken to the hospital. He is being taken care of, including financial assistance to treat his injuries. The car was non-functional and had to be towed in presence of my driver.”
