‘Pradhanpatis’ using wives as rubber stamps will frustrate aim of women empowerment: Allahabad HC

The Allahabad High Court dismissed a writ petition filed by the husband of a woman village head, criticising the practice of husbands acting as proxies for elected women pradhans. The court imposed a cost of ₹5,000 each on the couple and stated that such interference undermines women empowerment and the objective of providing reservation for women in politics. The court also directed the State Election Commission to issue a circular cautioning candidates about their powers and duties as village representatives.

The court also imposed a cost of <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>5,000 each on both of them and observed that the husband of the woman village head had no business to interfere with the working of ‘Gaon Sabha. (For Representation)

Rape bid on colleague: On the run for days, Basti nayab tahsildar arrested

The complainant, a nayab tehsildar herself, brought the case to light on November 17 when she accused Shukla of misbehaviour, attempted molestation, and issuing threats to her life.

Previously, police had booked Shukla for rape and also charged him under various other offences under the Indian Penal Code. On November 21, Basti’s ACJM court issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

Keeping decibel under check: 3238 loudspeakers removed during statewide drive

The state police in Uttar Pradesh have launched a month-long drive against loudspeakers in public places, including religious places, checking decibel levels and legality. On the first day, 3,238 illegal loudspeakers were removed and the decibel levels of 7,288 loudspeakers were lowered. The campaign has been ordered following previous court rulings against illegally placed loudspeakers. In Agra alone, 187 loudspeakers were removed and the decibel levels of 79 loudspeakers were reduced.

The introduction of millets-based food in mid-day meals for 20 million children in Uttar Pradesh has been delayed due to procurement issues.
