According to the DB Marg police, the car was being driven by a 17-year-old boy, a resident of Kharghar. The vehicle belonged to the grandfather of the boy’s female friend.

The accident took place around 1.45 am on Monday on the southbound carriageway of the Coastal Road. While driving, the minor lost control of the Mercedes and crashed into a Ford EcoSport ahead of it. The EcoSport then collided with another vehicle.

Prasanna Mopkar, a resident of Mira Road, was travelling in the EcoSport along with his wife and mother-in-law. All three sustained injuries. They were on their way to a restaurant in south Mumbai when the accident took place.

“We have registered a case of rash and negligent driving under the Motor Vehicles Act against the minor accused and the girl’s grandfather,” said a police officer.
