The police were looking for one Bhushan Pandey and raided his house in Koshodongo village under Deori Police station in Giridih district early Wednesday morning.
“I managed to flee when the police came knocking around 3.20 am today. My other family members also moved out. The child was sleeping on a bed inside one of the rooms. The policemen stepped on to the bed looking for me and trampled the child. When my family members went inside the room later, they saw the child dead,” Pandey told reporters on Wednesday.
As Bhushan’s statement began circulating on social media, CM Soren directed the authorities to probe the matter. “@Jharkhandpolice probe the incident and report back (sic.),” Soren tweeted.
Replying to it, police said Giridih superintendent of police (SP) has been directed to probe the incident.
Giridih SP Amit Renu did not respond to the phone call and message.
Giridih deputy commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakra said the allegation seems to be false prima facie.
“I had a word with the SP. Prima facie, it seems the allegation is false and a diversionary tactic of the accused. However, autopsy of the child is being done to establish facts. We will act accordingly,” Lakra said.
