India captain Virat Kohli couldn’t control his emotions after fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah hit his first international six during the fourth ODI against Australia at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Sunday.
Bumrah came to bat after Yuzvendra Chahal was dismissed by Pat Cummins on the penultimate ball of the Indian innings. Bumrah then did the unthinkable as he hit Cummins for a six straight down the ground to take India’s total to 358/9 in 50 overs.
Right after the Bumrah’s maximum, the camera panned towards the Indian dressing room where it captured the players jumping in joy. As Kohli and his teammates were applauding the shot from the balcony, Bumrah was congratulated by a smiling Kuldeep Yadav — who was present at the non-striker’s end.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) uploaded the video on social media and their post read: “That moment when @Jaspritbumrah93 hits the last ball for a maximum.”
After hitting his first international six, Bumrah was back on the field practising his trademark yorkers before the start of the Aussie chase. Bumrah — who is playing in his 100th international match — will be eying a change of fortunes with the ball.
Since his return into the side after being rested, Bumrah has scalped just seven wickets in five matches across formats. To make matters worse, he went wicket-less in couple of matches against Australia and India went on to lose both the contests.
Bumrah’s overall ODI numbers are incredible as his economy rate stands at 4.46 and his strike rate column reads less than 30. However, in the three ODIs so far, he has picked just four wickets giving away 142 runs at an average of 35.50.
