Athish SR is a left-handed batter-wicketkeeper from Tamil Nadu who has steadily worked his way into the state's senior setup after making his mark in club and age-group cricket.
His breakthrough came after a difficult period in the Mylapore Recreation Club A setup, where a disappointing run of form prompted him to shift his focus towards developing his skills and adapting better to different match situations. That change in approach helped him make his way into the Tamil Nadu Under-23 side and eventually earn a place in the senior squad.
Athish made major headlines by scoring a standout 137 runs against Rest of India U-23 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Athish made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu during the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season and also featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign. He showed his ability to make an impact in the longer format, including an 88 against Odisha, while also contributing a half-century during his early List A outings.
His development has also been aided by his work behind the stumps, giving Tamil Nadu another wicketkeeping option alongside his batting. He was picked up by Nellai Royal Kings in the TNPL and scored 171 runs in 7 games in the 2026 season.
