'You can do what Kishan did in one day but..': Ex-India star drops epic remark after Kohli ends century drought in ODIs

Batting icon Virat Kohli played a stellar knock against Litton Das-led Bangladesh and registered his 72nd international century on Sunday. India thrashed Bangladesh by 227 runs in the 3rd ODI.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli played a perfect second fiddle to an on-song Ishan Kishan during the third and final encounter of the recently concluded bilateral series between India and Bangladesh. Ending his century drought in One Day International (ODI) cricket on Sunday, batting icon Kohli played a stellar knock against the Litton Das-led side in Team India's comfortable win over the hosts at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

While Indian opener Kishan smashed a record-breaking double century in the 3rd ODI, Kohli notched up his 72nd international century to surpass legendary cricketer Ricky Ponting in an elite list. Batting maestro Kohli and superstar Kishan propelled India to a gigantic total of 409-8 in the 50-over contest. The batting heroics of Kohli and Kishan guided Rohit Sharma-less India to a convincing win over Bangladesh in the 3rd ODI at Chattogram.

Sharing his views about Kohli's batting masterclass on Sony Sports, former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar gave a noteworthy mention to Bangladesh skipper - Das. "I think Ishan Kishan's innings helped him a lot. He will definitely send something to Litton Das because very few times such catches are dropped in international cricket, but you also have to remember that he took a brilliant catch in the first game. He could take his time today. An early wicket had fallen, so he had the time. The pitch kept on improving. The fluency came in later, there is no doubt that it was a struggle at the start but Ishan Kishan had removed the pressure from him," Agarkar said.

During the same discussion, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja pointed out that Kohli is only behind Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in the elite list of players with the most international centuries. Former Indian skipper Tendulkar is the only batter to register 100 international centuries. Kohli has 72 international tons to his name across all formats. "Only God (Sachin Tendulkar) is ahead. This is a milestone that cannot be achieved in one day. You can do what Ishan Kishan did in one day, or score a triple century, but to score 72 centuries is amazing. Consistency is his name," Jadeja said.

Kohli and Kishan added 290 runs for the second wicket which also turned out to be the seventh-highest partnership in the history of ODI cricket. The former Indian skipper scored 113 off 91 balls while match-winner smashed 210 off 113 balls as India registered a massive 227-run win over Bangladesh in the 3rd ODI. Kishan was named the Player of the Match for his batting masterclass.
