"The intelligence input is based on a report of the interrogation of a militant arrested in Jammu region recently," official sources said in New Delhi.

"The arrested militant had said eight installations in the financial capital which includes India's largest Housing lender in South Mumbai," the sources said.

The input prepared based on his interrogation said four dates had been even mentioned -- two this month and two in next month -- for a possible attack by LeT militants in the commercial capital.

Though the dates for this month have already passed, the security agencies were leaving nothing to chance and are ensuring tight security not only in Mumbai city but also along its coastal areas.

The intelligence agencies also passed on the alert to Tamil Nadu as the input suggested that terrorists may try and target the Chennai Railway station in a similar fashion the VT railway station was attacked in Mumbai on November 2 last. The coastal security had been also strengthened in the state.

"We have increased our vigilance at some banks in the city and also railway stations following the IB warning on July 8," Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Naseem Khan told PTI in Mumbai.
