Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Tuesday felicitated Pandit Joshi for being chosen for Bharat Ratna.
"It is an honour for Joshi and Maharashtra. We are proud that he has been selected for the coveted award", Deshmukh said.
"Pandit Bhimsen Joshi has enriched the Indian classical music and his name has become synonymous with great music. Millions of people have been lucky to have experienced his heavenly voice", Deshmukh said.
The Chief Minister recalled that several `abhangs' of saints like Sant Tukaram, have been immortalised in Joshi's rich voice.
