Haribhushan Thakur 'Bachaul'

Haribhushan Thakur 'Bachaul' BJP candidate Bihar election 2025

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

  • Birth Year:1969
  • Description:Haribhushan Thakur 'Bachaul' (his nikcname also spelt 'Bachol) is a controversial but influential politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), representing the Bisfi constituency from the Madhubani district of Bihar. He first won the seat as an independent candidate in both the February and October 2005 elections. In 2020, he secured his third victory, this time on the BJP ticket. This win was particularly notable as the seat had been contested by the Janata Dal (United) in previous elections. Bachaul is well-known for his provocative statements, often related to Hindu-Muslim issues, which have consistently placed him in the media spotlight. In February 2022, his remarks about "revoking Muslims' voting rights" caused a stir within the BJP-JDU alliance or NDA, as his party was in a coalition government with Nitish Kumar's party at the time. This incident was one of many that highlighted internal tensions in the alliance. Due to the high-profile nature of his statements and the security risks they may entail, Bachaul is one of the few Bihar BJP leaders to have got Y-category security.
