UP poll results: Swami Prasad Maurya of Samajwadi Party trails from Fazilnagar seat
Fazilnagar voted during the sixth phase of the Assembly election in the state on March 3.
Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former minister Swami Prasad Maurya in the Yogi Adityanath cabinet is trailing in the Fazilnagar seat against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Surendra Kumar Kushwaha by a margin of 32,672 votes, according to updated trends.
Fazilnagar voted during the sixth phase of the Assembly election in the state on March 3.
Instead of contesting from his stronghold Padrauna, Maurya, a heavyweight OBC leader who joined Akhilesh Yadav's party in January, chose to contest from Fazilnagar this time.

Last month, he had exuded confidence of a clear win from the seat. "I was elected from Padrauna in Kushinagar district in the 2009 by-poll, 2012 and 2017 assembly elections. The outsider tag (given) by rival parties will be rejected by the people. Along with the traditional support base of the Samajwadi Party, I am getting support from other communities as well. They know that like Padrauna, Fazilnagar will also become a developed constituency,” the former UP minister told Hindustan Times.
So far, the leading or trailing trends are known for 399 constituencies out of the total 403. Of these, the BJP is currently leading in 248, which is well over the majority mark of 202.
The Samajwadi Party is in second place and is leading in 112 constituencies. The Congress on the other hand has managed to get a lead in three constituencies, so far.
