Uttarakhand assembly election 2022 schedule

Schedule for General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand assembly elections 2022 for 70 seats were held in a single phase on February 14. The hill state - that the ruling BJP is fighting to keep - saw a voter turnout of 62.5 per cent. see more

On the Uttarakhand voter list, there are over 78 lakh voters. The state - where a majority of the population belongs to the Hindu community - has roughly 14 per cent of Muslim population.

Uttarakhand poll issues do not factor in environmental concerns even as over 70 per cent of the area in the hill state is under forest cover. The Congress and the AAP are the key challengers in the state.

In the 2017 Uttarakhand elections, the BJP won 57 seats. This time, the party’s slogan is to go beyond the 60-mark - ‘Abki baar, 60 paar’. However, the ruling party has come under attack from the opposition after the state saw two new chief ministers last year in quick succession. Trivendra Singh Rawat was the Chief Minister till last year but he was replaced by Teerath Singh Rawat and later Pushkar Singh Dhamki took over the top post. The BJP has formed the government in the state in 2007 too.

In 2012, Congress had won the Uttarakhand assembly polls and former chief minister Harish Singh Rawat is eyeing a return to power.

Among other Uttarakhand poll issues, the AAP has promised to promote religious tourism in the state. The party’s CM face is Colonel (retired) Ajay Kothiyal.

Uttarakhand election result will be announced on March 10.
