People of Nandigram will make BJP 'April Fool', says Abhishek Banerjee
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has stepped away from her traditional Bhowanipore seat to contest from Nandigram for the 2021 West Bengal Assembly Elections.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee said that the people of Nandigram will cast their votes to "Bengal's daughter" Mamata Banerjee on April 1 and make the Bharatiya Janata Party "April fool", on Tuesday via Twitter.
"Mamata Banerjee's huge workers' meeting today at one of the strongholds of the movement, Nandigram, sent the message of peace and development. The people of Nandigram will vote for Bengal's daughter on April 1 and make the BJP April Fool," Banerjee tweeted in Bengali.
He also quoted TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee when he tweeted, "I can forget my name, but I cannot forget Nandigram."
Mamata Banerjee has stepped away from her traditional Bhowanipore seat to contest from Nandigram for the 2021 West Bengal Assembly Elections. While the BJP has said that she was losing confidence in retaining her Bhowanipore said, Banerjee said that it was her plan to contest from either Singur or Nandigram.
She would be contesting against former aide and political heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari, who recently joined the BJP from TMC ahead of the polls. Adhikari had said in January that he would beat Banerjee or quit politics.
Adhikari had also mocked the chief minister for leaving her traditional seat in Bhowanipore.

"Why have you deserted your Bhowanipore constituency? Why have you run away? Is it because the BJP had won in the booth at Mitra Institution in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections? You cannot even win in your own locality," he had said at a rally in Kolkata.
He also said that he was "200 per cent" confident of defeating her in Nandigram where she was an "outsider".
Addressing the rally in Nandigram on Tuesday, the TMC supremo attacked the BJP over the outsider claim.
"Some people are saying that I am an outsider. I, being a Bengali, is an outsider and you people who are from Delhi are not outsiders?" she said.
Suvendu Adhikari was one of the driving factors in the Nandigram movement which eventually led to Mamata Banerjee overthrowing three decades of the Left rule in West Bengal.
Polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections will be a long and drawn-out affair, spanning over eight phases and stretching over a month from March 27 to April 29. The three main competitors for power in the state are the BJP, the Left-Congress-ISF alliance and the ruling TMC.
