Film and television star Ronit Roy was arrested Thursday for rash and negligent driving after his speeding Mercedes crashed into another car in suburban Andheri, injuring the family travelling in the vehicle, police said.

The 42-year-old actor, who plays an abusive father in award-winning film Udaan, was later granted bail.

Roy was behind the wheels when his car rammed into a WagonR at around 6.45am on Linking Road, the police said. The WagonR overturned, seriously injuring Kaanta Darera. The actor took Kaanta, her husband and their daughters to hospital. The police are waiting for medical reports to find out if the actor of the Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi fame was driving drunk.
